Why did'nt the NHL go international instead of going to small cities like nashville?

Why did'nt they go to London, Berlin, Moscow, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Mexico City, Munich, Rome, Madrid, Kiev, etc. the market is giant in Europe, They would do much more money then in Nashville, Phoenix, Florida, L-A, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, San Jose, Columbus, St Louis. Hockey would be much more popular, more competitive, and a much richer game. dont tell me it would be hard for teams to trip around europe, asia and america, it would be to exhausting, all you have to do is make it Inter-Continental, and face other continents rarely, like east vs west. I just dont understand NHL's closed mind, thats why its not popular...
