Why did 7 show scnhcronised diving instead of James Tomkins first row at his 6th olympics?

Why did Channel 7 decide to continue showing synchronised diving for over half an hour, instead of showing the 7 minutes it would have taken to show the mens 8 rowing heat containing the Australian flag bearer from the opening ceremony James Tomkins?

In fact why is all of their coverage so poor??

The Aussie rowers had troubles with their boat about 500m into the race. They were forced to stop rowing because they were headed straight towards the Canadian team. Luckily, because they had technical difficulties with their boat, they are allowed to compete again in the reparcharge (2nd chance race). All hope is not lost.
