Obama is against ANWAR drilling, saying it will take 10 years to get oil there. Is this the standard democratic line to sock it to the American people?

Yes, lobbyists groups who fund the political parties will not fund/vote for a democrate who supports drilling in ANWAR because its bad for the enviroment for that area that no lives, and won't effect the wildlfife to drastically, and save the tax payers millions.

Whoever said what when isn't the issue.

Domestic oil exploration and drilling in the ANWR region is - and always should be - off limits. It's one of the few remaining pristine regions on Earth. It will disrupt caribou migration patterns. It will not produce more than a few years' worth of oil. It will decimate - possibly even exterminate - remote Eskimo tribes in the region.

If we are arrogant and pompous enough to believe that WE are more important than the Eskimos, caribou and polar bears living in the ANWR regions, WE have allowed arrogance, ignorance, neglect, avarice and hubris to set in to a point of moral decay and reprehensible irresponsibility.  

What makes us think that tooling around in gas-guzzling SUVs and Hummer is more important than preserving and protecting untouched areas of the planet? What makes us think that we should have the audacity to destroy other creatures and species on this planet all for the sake of our own profit, comfort and convenience??

No need for it then!!!  There was an abundance of oil, now it seems like under Bush's reign the oil has completely disappeared and the price has skyrocketed.
