  3. in think because one state was for muslims , pakistan and of sourse india for the buddists.

  4. Britain didn't have the power to continue to rule this vast part of there empire anymore.  They lost a lot of prestige in the way they tried to handle the non-violent methods used by Ghandi and his followers.  The Indian subcontinent was partitioned into Hindu-dominated but nominally secular India and the newly created Muslim state of Pakistan after India’s independence from Great Britain in 1947. Severe rioting and population movement ensued and an estimated half a million people were killed in communal violence. About a million people were left homeless. Since partition, the territory of Jammu and Kashmir has remained in dispute, with Pakistan and India both holding sectors.  You should be able to search on google to find this info:

Be sure to address the issues of

    -Religion

    -Kashmir

    -The British occupation

    -International influences

    -Public interest

    -Locals

And though it may not related directly to your question studying Mahatma Gandhi and his reasons for fasting may help you in understanding the effects of the partition on the occupants of both countries. Though the majority of hindu's are now in India and the Muslims in Pakistan this wasn't walways the case and it cause a lot of controversy prior to the formation of Pakistan.

Hope this helped. I tried not to give too much information. I didn't have a text book in social 30 because the school ran out so the internet was my best friend.
