Why did Charles II convert to catholicism on his deathbed?

He always was a Catholic-he converted to Anglicanism to keep his subjects happy when he became king (he was after all. the head of the Anglican Church!) but it was rumoured he still took confession and had a personal Catholic priest. When he had to make his peace with God he returned to the one true holy Catholic and apostolic church ;)
