Question:

Why did Chief kill McMurphy in the end of "One flew over the cuckoo's nest"?

I just finish watching the movie but I didn't understand very well why he kills him.

Any help explaining this to me please...

  1. Chief suffocated McMurphy because McMurphy did all he could do. In Chief's mind he knew that McMurphy had lost the battle to electroshock therapy. Living as a vegetable and dieing as a vegetable is worse than living and dieing with pride and honor. Chief did not want McMurphy to suffer.
