I LOVE Jeep Cherokee's my favorite one is the 2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic (I want to own one) I'm just wonderin why did Chrysler stop making them so soon. Since 1991 a new Ford Explorer has been released every year it's just not fair they stop manufacturing the Jeep Cherokee's.........it just seems like their becoming more and more scarce nowa days

Here's a picture of it:---------> http://fp.images.autos.msn.com/merismus/gallery/c438568a.jpg

  1. the liberty replaced it and the patriot is kinds close now

  2. Probably petrol prices

  3. The XJ vehicle production began in 1983 and went pretty much unchanged untill 2001.It was time for a new vehicle and so the Liberty was launched in the brand new 2 billion dollar Toledo North Assembly Plant.A lot of people said they made a mistake,I know we did at work and I believe looking back they know they made a mistake.The straight 6 in the XJ also produced more emission and was less fuel efficent then the new 3.7 in the Liberty.

  4. They were still selling over 100,000 per year at end of production.

    Number of XJs built in given year:

    '84 - 93,326

    '85 - 120,328

    '86 - 107,225

    '87 - 139,295

    '88 - 187,136

    '89 - 207,216

    '90 - 151,230

    '91 - 151,578

    '92 - 137,826

    '93 - 144,961

    '94 - 123,391

    '95 - 120,234

    '96 - 286,463

    '97 - 258,958

    '98 - 182,845

    '99 - 186,116

    '00 - 165,590 (Freedom Edition - 2,821)

    '01 - 120,454

    Total = 2,884,172

    One of the main reasons was the tooling was completely worn out for the body and engine. Retooling for it did not seem like a good idea.

    Personally think they were wrong..but they did not asked me.

    1990 still running strong.

    Later.

  5. Why did Ford stop making the Model "T"???

  6. The future Grand Cherokee will be moving on to a car-based platform to save tooling costs.  the Grand Cherokee almost never leaves the hard road... I have a 1995 it gets 24mph on the freeway, and has never been on more than a dirt road.  But it is great...

  7. There was not enough variation or demand for the Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee, so they quit making the Cherokee.

    With the way gas prices are now, this was one of the few good moves that Chrysler/Jeep has made in the past decade.

  8. The Liberty replaced it but on a side note the XJ was still produced in China until 2004 with the same body style but with a Grand Cherokee front end.  The Libery is badged as a Cherokee when exported.  It was really just an evolution of the vehicle.. a good one? Probably not though I see alot of Libertys on the road and thought about one for my wife... However the XJ Cherokee was one of the last solid front axle SUV 4x4 left on the market except for the Jeep Wrangler which now has a 4 door option so it has kind of taken over that part of the market where the XJ left off.

  9. bekuz its old fashioned and ugly
