Why did Dara Torres sacrafice her gold medal for Phelps?

Dara Torres won her race, but in order for her to get the gold, she would have to expose the fact that the touchpads are not 100% accurage. Like Cavic, Dara Torres won her race in reality, but lost according to the touch sensors. Why should she have to sacrifice her gold just so people don't find out about how the person who touches the plane of the wall first doesn't win, but the one who slams the touchpads hard with their palm/s wins.

Sal, obviously you're a Cavic fan and I give you major kudos for supporting your favorite so strongly. However, there is no reason to post the same question (Albeit phrased differently.) over and over. The Olympics are done, Phelps has the Gold. I was disappointed by a result too, I felt that Nastia Liukin was robbed on her bars routine. (And before anyone says it's because I'm American 1.) I didn't live here until age 5 and 2.) I can name you plently of American athletes I won't cheer for based on attitude, etc.) But I'm not going around whining about it, I've accepted it and moved on. Now  you brought Dara into this, why? I adore her, she's not only a fantastic swimmer but role model and wonderful person too. But I highly doubt she'd sacrifice a chance at her first Gold (These are her last Olympics!) for someone else. She was HAPPY with Silver and accepted the result. Please, let this be.

You have to hit the pad hard, if the settings were lower waves would set it off.

Cavic did touch the pad first and pictures did prove it, but the officials had told all the swimmers that they needed to touch the pads pretty hard because then the touch pads wouldn't sensor it. And Cavic touched it lightly. If the settings were any less, the waves would be able to set it off. So they let Phelps keep his medal.
