Celebrity became too much and he overdosed.  Some folks can handle fame.  But his fame was HUGE.  I don't think there has ever been a celebrity that has such constant focus on him/her.  Sad, he was awesome.

The reason was partially genetic and partially due to his living a life of excess.  In addition, he had a doctor who prescribed whatever drugs Elvis wanted, apparently.  His life was comparable to those of so many rock stars: too much indulgence in drugs and booze resulting in either overdoses or bodily destruction.

No mystery here.....Elvis overindulged himself with his eating habits and drugs.  No one around him was willing or able to help him change his ways.  All in all a bad combination and caused his early death.
