Question:

Why did England change to a red strip against France tonight?

I can understand Scotland changing strips to play against France as both teams play in blue but no way was France's all-blue strip going to clash with England's all-white strip, so why the change? They always used to play in white against France before.

  1. Definately goes down to marketing.  A way to sell more jerseys and fill the coffers for the RFU.  Maybe if they make enough money, they can contract all the players themselves and stop the clubs holding players back from games hahahah

Another reason could be to try and find a "lucky strip".  They have no show of winning the World Cup, so maybe they are looking to the devine... maybe they should have switched to an all black jersey... could make the All Blacks play in white... like France is trying to do.

  2. Merchandizing exercise - they'll want to sell the new strip - all down to money.

  3. John M, you're in the RUGBY section mate!!!

I think it's a marketing exercise, like the first answerer said.

Looked bl00dy awful in my opinion. Their new white strip looks quite good though (and this is coming from an Aussie who HATES English rugby lol)

England play in WHITE, not red. No need to change strips, the only other international team that plays in white is Fiji!!!

  4. So it would not clash with their faces after another thrashing by France

  5. It's this Bl**dy 1966 thing again. We know you won the world cup in 1966 are we ever going to hear the end of it. Most of the players are dead or close to it, it was so long ago, Give us a rest. John Mottson putt's in a reference to it no matter what he is commentating about. It is usually shades of 66, that's his best one. We have noted your world cup win now give the world a break and talk about your fantastic cricket team or something.

  6. it is all to sell shirts & 2 make more money for the RFU.

  7. It's all decided before the game.

One team has to play in their 'home' kit and the other in their 'away' kit.  When both teams are playing 'away' then the choice of strip is decided by officials before the match starts.

Just be thankful they're not in that god-awful grey they wore in '96 ;)
