Ferrer's second set is proof that mental weakness can lose the game for you. It shows again Rafa's mental toughness is just as important as his muscles. How do you strengthen the mental aspect of the game?

  1. Rafa rocks!!! Federer is going down, deal with it NINA!!!! Vamos Rafa

  2. Compete against yourself, instead of blaming lines and judges all the time. For example, Serena almost never challenges, even when she could probably win. Her mentality is what helps her be good (although not yet the best again - We'll see, if she can win at the French, she may have arrived.)

  3. I didn't get to see this particular match. My cable package sucks: no Tennis Channel. But it is very true that the mental side of tennis is every bit as important as the physical side and raw talent. The true greats have had great games AND great mentalities: Sampras, Federer, Agassi, etc. However, there have been many talented players who were let down by their lousy attitudes. Safin, Ivanisevic and Kafelnikov all come to mind. These guys all managed to win Majors, but could have achieved so much more with a positive outlook. It's a shame, but there's no quick fix. Some players have managed to improve their mentalities, but many have suffered with negativity and self-doubt throughout their careers.

  4. xnoraffa this has nothing to do with Federer. Sheesh.

Ferrer could play a mean game if he didn't let his emotions rule him. He is a top player, and his coach has to get his mental game honed up and then we'll see him improve.

Though, when the umpire called a ball "in" that was so obviously out, that would have thrown off anyone for the rest of that game.
