  1. Really, they bombed S.O. because Georgia tolerated Russian financed and armed separatist group shooting at them on regular bases for 15-16 years.

That separatist group killed and forced out all of the Georgians from the territory they controlled in 1991-92, with Russian military support.

So, Georgia had a lot more rights to go in than Russia who pretty much caused all that. Needless to say Russia had absolutely no right to go into Georgia, outside conflict zone.

Georgia never denied it attacked on 7th. There was an official announcement about that.

Although S.O. doesn't want to admit they were shooting and shelling Georgian villages for a week before that daily, including the night on 7th when the Georgian attack started.

I wouldn't go by Russian or S.O. media info on this conflict.

If you believe Russian/S.O media there were 1600 to 200 civilians killed by Georgians only on first night of the bombardment. Apparently both, Russians  and S.O. can't figure out how to use a photo or video cam to take a picture of those thousand bodies for 8 days already...

To be fair, Russian TV showed what according to them was 4500 passports of innocent victims.

So, as far as I understand, Russian media wants the world to believe that in S.O. innocent civilians when hit with a bullet or shrapnel simply evaporate, leaving just the Russian passport as a proof of the Georgian crime.

HRW reported 44 dead (including military and civilian). And that's after initial Georgian bombardment followed with 3 days of Russian aerial and artillery bombardments to push Georgian forces out of the city.

So, how many were killed by Russian bombs and how many were killed by Georgians is kindda hard to tell.

Russians/S.O. initially reported Tskhinvali was completely destroyed, HRW reported that wasn't true. Now even Russians admit only 10% of the city was damaged. Again, which buildings were damaged by Russian airplanes and which ones were damaged by Georgian bombs is unclear.

Although, clearly 200 Russian planes weren't dropping candy bars over there for 3 days.

There was another report in Russian media, Russian planes dropped ordinance on Java, another small town in S.O. which didn't explode and now sitting in the center of the city, with Russian military so far refused to clean the place up citing that it can explode...

  2. In 1992 Ossetia won de facto freedom from Georgia. When elected, Saakashvili pledged to get it back. Then Georgia attacked and targeted civilians. Why? I guess to draw out Russia. Then the US would side with Georgia. Guess what happened?

  3. Unless you have an intelligence agency giving you straight answers, you will probably never know the truth.  Your children may find out, when the documents are de-classified, but they will never really know whether the documents are genuine.

Georgian newspapers are telling their people that they were being bombarded by Osetian artillery and they were forced to  enter Osetia in order to defend themselves from Osetian militia. Then Russia attacked them and only Georgian military and World opinion stopped the Russians from re-conquering Georgia..

Russian newspapers are saying that Georgians had just negotiated a cease-fire with the Osetian Militia and then 2 hours later, attacked Tskinvili with 7500 troops and all their tanks.  They slaughtered 2000 civilians and attempted to take the rest of Osetia, but were effectively opposed by 2500 Osetian militia and 900 Russian Peacekeepers who stalled them until the relief column arrived the next day.  The Russians are very angry at the US for flying 2000 Georgian troops in from Iraq and using the US Air Force for "humanitarian aid"

    There is speculation that:

    1)   It was a deliberate setup on the part of the US/Israel/Ukraine to take the province and then hide behind a US brokered cease-fire, or;

    2)   Bush put Georgia up to it to provoke the Russian reaction and push the Poles and others against Russia and towards the missile treaty while he is still in office, or;

    3)   The Russian reaction was so efficient that it had to be a Russian trap.

Most people think that the Georgian President is an idiot, a dupe, or a sellout, since it doesn't look like he'll ever get Osetia back now.

The Economist, a British journal, isn't unbiased, but it has some insightful analysis (see link).

  4. They are part of Gergia that want to break away. Any country would use force to get their territory back.

  5. In every situation there are two sides .. all claim they are right, depending on their own and political interests. Don't be confused - make a small research yourself. Search the internet about the topics you want and there are so many reliable resources there. Don't rely too much on individual blogs or comments, mostly they have their own selfish goal.

Georgia bomb Ossetia with its own reasons .. we don't really know .. I think a third party plays role in the situation.

  6. because s ossetians were terrorizing the georgians.

  7. Im onfused too... but i think its cuz they are retarded

  8. ok, i know a lot of people will call me what ever they will here, but truth and nothing but the truth?

It was plenty of proof founded that US was involved there. Saakashvilis salary was paid by americans in US dollars, the detailed map was found by russian troops in english and georgian how abhkazia will be overtaken after south ossetia. the plan did not work out, it wasn't expected russians will react fast and the way they did.

beside that US supplied georgia with guns and US military instructors where training georgian army for long. of course, you might prefer do not believe it, up to u..... call it a russian propaganda (i am use to it already)

  9. The situation is pretty gray there.

Georgia attacked South Ossetia cause apparently they say that SO started riots and crime and attacking stuff (anyhow they created h**l) and the only way to calm down the **** SO started over there was to send in the military.

Probably as you know SO is a breakaway province, pretty much like Kosovo, and claims independence from Georgia. Georgia and most of the international public recognize SO as part of Georgia, but Russia does not.

SO claims that they didn't do c**p, and that the attack from Georgia was unprovoked.

  10. Georgia is democratic.

Russia is not. So US is going to support the democratic nation.

The truth is Georgia really did bomb South Ossetia. Ask any Russian.

Even some Georgians will admit it too.

  11. There are 'separatists' in S. Ossetia (terrorists, rebels) put there and funded by Russia who were attacking Georgia.

The above scenario makes sense, but the facts are that even if Russia issued passports to the people in S. Ossetia, that doesn't make those people legally Russians.  That's the key to the truth of this situation.  Research it and think about it.  Russia, transparently issues passports to these people -- which does not legally make them Russians -- just so they could attack on the basis of 'protecting Russians'.

There's your guilty party.  Why would anyone believe anything else Russia had to say after that ignorant display?

  13. Let's imagine a scenario. Suppose USA is not a superpower but a weak country (like Georgia), and your neighbour Mexico is the tough guy. You have a part of your country that wants to break away and join another country. Like, for example, southern California, where the Mexicans are the majority, decide they want to break up with USA and join Mexico, so they start killing Americans, rioting, burning stuff, etc... what would you do ? Let them do whatever they want ? No ? Right ... you bomb them a little, send in the troops, try to keep the situation under control. Then... oops... Mexico invades you coz' you're killing Mexicans, how dare you ? Interesting scenario ?
