  1. South Ossetia is a province of Georgia, this province is predominantly Ethnic Russian and broke off from Georgia in the early 90's. THe Georgian Govt gambled that since they have been receiving so  much support from the west , they could retake the territory without Russia getting involved, of course this assumption failed.

  2. They thought Russia would be taken by suprise and they could wipe out all of the South Ossetians before Russia responded.

  3. To get to the other side! I believe they needed to get in position to hold a front against Russia!

  4. Why did the USA attack South Carolina?

Why did the Russians attack Chechen?

Each nation has the right to keep rebel states,  sectors,  areas from pulling out.

Georgia has the same right with South Ossetia.

  5. Since the price of oil is so high, everyone want a piece of the action

  6. I do not know that answer, but it was a dumb move.  If you are sitting next to a bear, why would you try to poke him in the eye with a stick?  The leader in Georgia in American educated.  Apparently he is an American supporter, and he relied on our support of his position.  We are in no position to take on more problems at this time.  Our plate is full with Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
