It's obvious that Georgia started the war with Russia but I wanted to know what might be some other reasons.

  1. McCain's top foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, was until March a registered lobbyist for the Republic of Georgia. His firm continues to work on behalf of Georgia

A public relations firm working for the Russian Federation pointed out Scheunemann’s lobbying past to reporters — a sign that McCain’s stance is not, for better or worse, being welcomed in Moscow — as did Obama’s campaign.

“John McCain’s top foreign policy adviser lobbied for, and has a vested interest in, the Republic of Georgia and McCain has mirrored the position advocated by the government,” said Obama spokesman Hari Sevugan, noting that the “appearance of a conflict of interest” was a consequence of McCain’s too-close ties to lobbyists.

McCain also calls for NATO to be inserted into the conflict, though Georgia is not a NATO member.  McCain also dusted off his bizarre call for Russia to be kicked out of The G-8. And Randy Scheunemann immediately tried to politicize the conflict - without however mentioning that he was a lobbyist for Georgia.

Further, McCain is ensnared irretrievably by the lobbyists he's surrounded himself with. Americans can't be sure of knowing what kinds of conflicts of interest lie behind John McCain's pronouncements on both foreign and domestic issues.

  4. You need to take another look at it, because it's obvious RUSSIA intigated it.  Just like it's obvious RUSSIA is planning on absorbing these territories into the Russia empire.

  5. For those who said that Russia attacked first, that's a blatant lie. All the news, even Georgian news, say that they attacked first. They attacked S. Ossetia in order to crush the rebels. They didn't think that Russia would retaliate while the Olympics were going on.

You know, it helps to actually read the news instead of believing everything you hear from politicians like Bush or McCain who have been proven to lie in the past.

  6. Because they thought their "friendship" with the US and the West would prevent Russia invading. Russia were waiting for an excuse to get in before Georgia joined NATO, and Geogia gave them the perfect excuse and now the rest of the world can only criticize Russia, but in reality they can't do anything because they don't have a leg to stand on.

  7. Georgia did not instigate the Russian Attack.

The Russian Government had massed troops and tankson the Georgian Border for months in preparation for the invasion.

  8. Georgia is a project of the United States, Israel and Ukraine to instigate a war with Russia to give the 3 countries named above as well as many other western countries a legitimate reason for the U.S. to install its missile defense system in Ukraine, Poland and Georgia.

  9. It is not obvious that Georgia instigated the attack. Georgia would have to be crazy in order to try anything as stupid. They merely tried to repell a russian advancement into Georgian territory. I have watched the news from both sides, CNN and Russia Today, and only CNN tries to show the full picture. Russia Today merely regurgitates that russians were attacked and show a loop of some people people crying and a building that has been bombed.

    @ the dude man:

This is not a debate forum. However you are correct in that I did not mention every single little bit RT had on their scheudule. However, it looks like propaganda and it smells like propaganda. Then could it possibly be propaganda? Before the early invasions of n**i Germany, they always claimed atrocities committed to ethnic Germans in the region they wished to invade.

  10. Do you know World History? I guess you never heard about history repeating itself because we will never learn. We have to stop Russia now weak or strong or he will keep invading the former satelite states.

Russia planed this and attacked first.

  11. It was the USA big plan, because the USA like to arrange wars far away from their place and when it is going on by means of other hands this is twice as pleasant for the USA. + teasing Russia is so "brave"... but this teasing can costs a lot - a lot of innocent lives and broken hearts.

  12.

First, sometimes you should not even try to explain why insane people act so wierdly. It is simple: they are not normal. It might be another unfortunate coincidence but there is a wide-spread opinion among the medical community that the Georgian President is showing unequivocal symptoms...But that's lyrics, here's a couple of facts and you can draw your own conclusions:

As far as instigation is concerned:

About a year ago a team of Russian peace-keepers got beaten up by Georgian troops in South Osetia. Not killed, that would be a huge scandal, but merely beaten without a reason whatsoever. Russia was outraged and condemned it but no retailiation followed.

About 6 months ago Georgia claimed a Georgian province got shelled from the Russian territory. Russia denied the allegations, still sent its team to investigate into the matter. When the team arrived, the Georgian authorities said the shell had been destroyed and, therefore, could not be examined. Nontheless, some part of it survived and the Russian team saw the serial number which showed the shell could have never been used by the Russian Armed Forces. Still no comments were made to this effect by any major Western media. And again Russia denounced the provocation but did nothing.

As far as the latest events are concerned, there is no talking about instigation and reaction to it. It is war on innocent civilians and measures to save lives. Georgia sends its troops to South Osetia and destroys the capital Tshinvali in less than 24 hours. Mind you, they were not fighting rebels (if there are any left yet, they are hiding out in the Gorge and not raising their kids in the city), they were firing and shelling against ordinary people who had just gone to sleep, agains schools and hospitals. Multiple rocket launchers were used to destroy the city, those weapons were internationally banned a long while ago because of their dreadful capacity to kill. So, South Osetia has been under fire for 20 hours, but what do we see on CNN...Russian tanks burning Georgia, they showed the images of the riuned Tshinvali and said it was actually the town of Gori....Unfortunately, some buildings have been destroyed in Gori too, and people died but that is totally incomparable to what was done to Tshinvali.... That is not even propaganda, that is blatant LIES.

Anyway, Russia comes in 20 hours after the Georgian attack on Tshinvali in order to protect what and who could still be protected in Tshinvali and what do we hear from the West including the media? RUSSIA ATTACKS GEORGIA, RUSSIA MUST BE STOPED, RUSSIAN TANKS IN GEORGIA and bla-bla-bla. That's non-sense.

Why did it all happen? There is a long-running dispute between Georgia and South Osetia over the independence of the latter. There might be different opinions on that. What is Georgia is claiming to do is preserve its territorial integrity. But the problem in this case is that throughout the last two centuries or more, a lot of bloodshed has happened between the two nations, the latest one is far from being the only one. Most likely, they can never live together as one state but the Georgian government doesn't want to admit it and what is still worse doesn't want to change it's ways around this problem. What was actually done was an attempt to force the province return to the fold of the Georgian state by......killing its population?

Why did Russia step in? It had all the formal and moral grounds to. First, at least 15 peacekeepers were killed at the very beginning of the attack and more in the following days. Secondly, a big part of the population in South Osetia (probably even the vast majority) hold Russian pasports. Now it doesn't matter why this strange thing ever happened but the fact is that after the collapse of the USSR, in the period of political turmoil, the Osetians prefered to become Russian nationals and not Georgian .By the way, isn't it weird that a breakaway province  which is supposedly must be very independentistic would not mind being considered a part of Russia (even formally), but would never live together with it's Georgian "brothers"?....

As to the moral side, if Russia had not stepped in, South Osetia would consider it a traitor. Besides, back in 1990-s Russia assumed its commitment to ensure peace in South Osetia and for that reason it had its peacekeepers there.....

And you know the latest from Saakashvili, that's a good one.....After unleashing a war and killing over 2000 innocent civilians the guy brings a complaint against Russia to the International Court of Justice. While the US and many others still support him and quite agressively at that.

HAS THIS WORLD GONE COMPLETELY MAD? PROBABLY THE DESEASE IS CONTAGIOUS.....
