Why did Georgia invaded S Ossetia?

Question

Ever since the war in Georgia started I try to figure out why on Gods sweet earth did Saakashvili invaded Ossetia. It makes absolutely no sense to me. And why now?

Does anyone have an idea?

There are a lot of Georgians in my town and every time I talk to them they just sake their heads and say that they have absolutelylly no idea why this happened.

Answers like "because he is insane" or "basause Ossetia is Georgian territory" are naive to say the least....

They've been in and out of war since 1989. Why does Russia feel the need to poke their nose in it now?

Totally agree with Misty Blue's response.   And haven't the western media been helpful promoting the idea of the Russian "invasion"?   Just glad to know there are people out there still thinking.

Could it be something to do with gas pipelines.

Notice how the Georgians invaded but the Russians are the bad boys for retaliating.

I think Bush has a hand in this.Georgia was getting trouble from S.Ossetian insurgents so Bush encouraged him to go in after them very severely.His real aim was to provoke a huge response from Russia which America could then use to make Russia look threatening to the West.This was the opportunity to 'sell' the idea of the missile shield to the West and get the deal signed with Poland quickly.They also used this as an excuse to try to rush through Georgia's request to join Nato.Doesn't that make sense to you?
