Why did God want 32 virgins as a plunder of war?

Numbers 31:31-40

31 So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.

32 The plunder remaining from everything the fighting men had taken totaled 675,000 sheep and goats, 33 72,000 cattle, 34 61,000 donkeys, 35 and 32,000 virgin girls.

36 Half of the plunder was given to the fighting men. It totaled 337,500 sheep and goats, 37 of which 675 were the Lord’s share; 38 36,000 cattle, of which 72 were the Lord’s share; 39 30,500 donkeys, of which 61 were the Lord’s share; 40 and 16,000 virgin girls, of whom 32 were the Lord’s share.

Let's see, there were 32,000 virgin girls, god usually asks for 10 percent, that would be 3,200 girls!!  That's really showing some restraint.  I guess he's getting older, just like the rest of us.

They are not even taking in consideration that he wants 61 donkeys, 37 sheep and goats and 32 virgins , the rest of the plunder goes to the soldiers.

How can they be so blind not to see this is not the word of any Gods,but that of ignorant sheep herders.

Why did God want them? Well life wouldn't be the same if we did not give back to God in some way. I am sure He had no actual use for these virgins but to deny men from getting what ever they want. Perhaps God wanted these virgins to remain pure in some way.

It's just another terrifying story from the Bible, that, if it had an iota of truth to it SHOULD send a shiver down the spine of the Christians who live their lives based on their belief that the Bible is life's handbook.

You can hardly turn a page of the Old Testament without reading a story of mass murder, destruction, mayhem performed under God's command.

I take solace in the fact that I live a good and honourable life without having to refer to that compilation of horror stories called the Bible
