Question:

Why did I do so badly?

I was in an ice skating competition competing in pre-juvenile. I landed a good double lutz, okay double lutz-double loop, double salch, great double toe, and fell on an axel and double loop. My spins weren't that great. I got 6th out of 12 skaters. I believe that I was the best jumper, because all the other skater's jumps were cheated and not nearly as consistent as mine. I can understand why I was beaten by the first place girl, as she had incredible flexibility and spins. But then, for the others, I honestly can't understand why I was beaten. The spins were slightly better than mine, jumps far worse...is there some other important element I'm forgetting? Is artisitry really that significant?

  1. At those levels they want the whole package. I have to say GOOD JOB for landing all those hard jumps. Not many girls at pre-juv have a double lutz. the same thing happened to me at premilinary. I had all the hard doubles and a good combo spin, but finished 2nd to last. 6th is not at all bad. there are SIX skaters worse than you! You did a great job. At this level you have to concentrate more on skating well rather than placing well. To be honest the judging is rather random in these local competitions.

  2. omg. totally significant!

your spins and artistry are most of your program!!!!!

jumps take up about maybe.....8 seconds at the most!

the rest is footwork, transitions, spins,

i dont think you can get very far without them.

try  working spins and adding more arms and footwork into your program during practice and your scores will improve

  3. you can not control the judges scoring just go out and do the  very best you you can every time out and the scores will come

  4. Yes well this happens to me all the time! Once I had a competition and i came in second place. I was scored (1 being the best, 5 being the worst) 1, 1, 2, 3, 5. I couldnt believe that one of the judges gave me a 5 because one of the girls ended her proram 30 seconds early and was just standing there. I finished exactly on time and did my spins and jumps right. sometimes judges aren't that great at judging! lol

  5. OMG! You did very well! I am competining in Pre-Juv too. Hey you cannot control the judges. Sometimes they're just tierd and not really looking for the best skater! Hey did you got to Austin Bluebonnet??
