Question:

Why did I have a hard time lifting my rental snowboard with one foot strapped in? I couldn't lift entire board

So I took snowboarding lessons for the first time today. We practiced with one foot strapped. I had a really difficult time lifting the board. One side of the board was always dragging on the ground. Everyone else was able to lift their entire board off the ground when climbing. I am wondering if the board I had was too long. I'm 5 ft tall and the rental board I got was up to my nose standing up. I'd debating whether or not to give snowboarding lessons another try and I'd really like to know if my board was just too big for me, or if I was just not strong enough to be able to lift the entire board off the ground, even just an inch, in order to climb up a hill. Riding the board was fun and not too difficult but dragging the board back to a higher elevation each time really made me tired really fast. Thanks for your input!

  1. i would just say that your legs just are not conditioned for lifting the board. try to turn your boot that is strapped in to lift it that may be easier

  2. Maybe you're stance is not what the instructors taught you. I'm goofy and the instructors kept trying to get me to be regular so just try the opposite stance of what you did

and if it isn't that then maybe your board was a bit long... but your board should be anywhere from the bottom of your chin to the tip of your nose

    =]

  3. if its ya first time you want a little shorter board so it was probably a little long, but that shouldnt stop you from bein able to lift it check to make sure your bindings are tight and that you have the correct stance.  if you like it youll want to buy your own board and you may want to get a little shorter and alot lighter.  hope you enjoi snowboarding 'cause i love it

  4. A lot of people fail to snug their boots, and straps.  When boots or straps aren't snug then the freespace makes lifting more difficult (like some popsicle stick after the popsicle melts a bit).  Too, if you walk "less than average" during the year, then lifting the board could be difficult.  I usually rotate my strapped ankle a bit while walking uphill.
