I had a Bank of America Platinum Plus Visa card, which I use regularly, and it wasn't supposed to expire until 2010. But today, I recieved a card that looks identical, with the same credit limit, but with a different account number.

I have not opened any new accounts in the past year, and I haven't spoken to a customer service rep for months. I never asked for a new card or applied for anything. Why would they send this to me?

  1. call them !!!

  2. First call the number on your platinum card and verify why a new card and number were sent to you, if BOA said it was requested cancel the second card right away, then get online to www.ftc.gov/credit and find the fraud alert link, you  may have to put a freeze on your social in writing to them, do not wait to do this, do it now if possible.

  3. Best check with BOA and ask them about it.

If they say you applied for it, then close it immediately and file a fraud complaint.

Check all three credit reports too.

  4. funny -- suggest you call customer service and ask them!!!
