Question:

Why did Jesus have nail marks after he was dead and risen?

In John 20:25 Thomas wanted to see Jesus nail wounds so that he could have proof that Jesus had risen from the dead.

Jesus obliged him and let Thomas touch his wounds so that he could believe he's died and resurrected.

Now..I don't know about anyone else... but this wouldn't prove to me that Jesus was risen from the dead. If it were me, I would think that if Jesus still had his wounds he must have faked his death and escaped. I would have to see him with NO wounds after being tortured and nailed to a cross to believe he had been resurrected.

Does anyone agree? Or am I just splitting hairs.

  1. if he didn't have the wounds then how could you be sure it was the same person who was nailed to the cross?  remember, religion is about faith not facts.  you have to believe whatever you are told no matter how suspicious it sounds.

  2. Well the dude prolly saw him being flogged and having to drag the cross and getting nailed to it and stuck with a spear, etc.  I dont think Chris Angel could pull that one off.

  3. However, if he had "escaped" wouldnt the scars have split his hands open?  (Since he would have had to pry his hands from being nailed to the cross) And,  how would they be scarred already?  He arose again on the 3rd day, If he escaped then they wouldn't be scars but open wounds..

The scars prove that something miraculous happened to him and was exact proof of his identity as the Christ ( the messiah )

  4. His nail scarred hands were prophesied.  Yeshua/Jesus was who He said He was.

  5. Well, he was buried.  So he would have had to fake his death pretty good.

  6. dON'T WORi

    i'll ask him for u

  7. I have always thought about that myself because when we are all ressurected, we are suppose to be in a perfect state. I believe that it is the only way that He could proove he was the Son of God and lets not forget, Christ could do whatever He needs to accomplish His plan, so if he needs to show the marks, then so be it.

  8. I agree, I hope I dont have scars as a ghost

  9. Jesus showed them His wounds on His hands and His side not to show them He was Jesus, but to show them He was not a ghost they were seeing.

  10. I disagree. Why would there not be marks? He still had the same body as He had before. So the marks would still be there, wouldn't they? I'm not understanding your reasoning.

I think we see from the Thomas story that it was in fact Jesus standing before Thomas and not some impostor. An impostor would not have any marks of course. But the man standing in front of Thomas did so it was clear to Thomas that it was the same man He had known before and who had been crucified just 3 days earlier.

  11. Jesus knew what was in the heart of Thomas .Knowing

    this,Jesus presented him this evidence.

Too many people today want proof.Proof want change

a heart and it never does.Jesus says it takes faith to

change a miserable dead life.Trust is a must in true

    Christianity.

  12. Jesus the son of God rose from the grave..Jesus Son of man still bears the scars of the burdens he bares..don't most humans?  its the rising from the dead i can't accomplish.

  13. he had scars to prove how powerful he was to go through something that painful and gruesome and still come out alive

  14. The disciple (Thomas) did recognize Him, but thought that He was a spirit.  Jesus said to touch Him to prove that He was not a spirit.  He also ate fish, and asked the question (paraphrased) Can a spirit eat meat?

Please, when you ask questions concerning Scripture, remember the context in which it is found.

The reason He still has the scars, is that when He returns, the Jews will look on Him whom they have pierced, and believe in Jesus Christ as the Messiah they have waited for for so long.

    John 19

37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

    (KJV)

    Revelation 1

7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

    (KJV)

  15. He had the nail marks to prove he was Jesus. Remember the men on the road to Emmeus didn't recognized him at first.

  16. No, I think if He had had no wounds, then it could have easily been said that this was an impostor in front of the disciples. The wounds proved who He was and that He had in fact triumphed over death.
