Why did John McCain divorce his first wife, Carol Shepp ?

During interviews, McCain said he "takes full responsibility" for the divorce, but doesn't give any specifics.

When I was in college (15+ years ago) McCain came to speak to my class about the psychology of being a prisoner.  I remember him saying how hard it was to come home and that when he came home he felt he didn't belong in his own family.  After five years without him, they had learned to function on their own and he wanted to return and be the man of the family.  At the time I remember thinking how sad it was that he had spent five years wishing to go home, only to find that himself out of place when he got there.

McCain has said repeatedly that he was afforded no special treatment while

in the "Hanoi Hilton". Yet when he was first interviewed by the North

Vietnamese he is shown at a hospital reserved for Vietnamese military and

he was seen by Soviet Surgeons. He was drinking coffee and smoking

cigarettes while being interviewed. This was a far cry from the way the

rest of the POWs were treated.

   His wife at the time, was a member of the National League of Families and

she fought to make sure that John McCain came home. He rewarded this

loyalty by divorcing her after his return.

McCain had an affair with Cyndi, then he dumped his wife and kids.  I guess Carol is cool with all of that now, but was pretty angry at the time.  I guess Karl Rove was right about McCain.

I'm sure he would have gotten one anyway.

And would you really be happy with a disabled person, for get the fact that you love them and all, would you be happy.

People on this list show more concern about Carol than Carol does. She has been friends with her ex and has supported him and has never said any thing bad about him, he has not said anything bad about her. It's the fools here who cause old wounds to surface for a lady who doesn't deserve this.
