Why did Kobe Bryant change his number???

I always wondered, why did Kobe change from 8 to 24?? And when did this change happen?

I've heard rumors that Kobe changed it to increase his jersey sales, but I always thought there had to be some other reason besides that...

It was to represent the second half of his career. And it was his high school number I believe before he changed it to 33.

Bryant's first high school number was 24 before he switched to 33. After the Lakers' season ended, Bryant said on TNT that he wanted 24 as a rookie, but it was unavailable, as was 33, retired with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Bryant wore 143 at the Adidas ABCD camp, and chose 8 by adding those numbers.

There is a lot of stories why he changed his number to 24 one is because it was the number he wanted to be at first, it was his favorite and his HS number. The other one is that it was a new start to his career. A lot of stuff had been happening and new changes were going on that he probably wanted a new start. A few players do that. Amare Stoudemire changed his number to #1 when he came back from injury

I'm not sure why he changed his number but here's a funny fact. Kobe changed his number to 24, one more than Jordan's #23. On the USA team Kobe is #10, one more than Jordan's #9 on USA. Coincidence? I don't think so.
