he was afraid that his music would become very popular and represent a genre that wasnt really about the music anymore

he didnt want to  see that happen

Well...He was married to Courtney Love. ha ha, but seriously there's no definitive answer here. The best I can come up with is a combination of the unwanted excessive attention they received [Nirvana was well-known for being uncomfortable with all the publicity, as most smart people are], Cobain was a drug user, as well. Life is hard regardless but add in all this pressure and it gets downright crazy. Still, it's hard to get better than Nirvana...

I don't think there is any one reason, but he was having some problems in his life. He didn't have the best marriage. He was depressed for most of his life. His parent's divorce had a big affect on him. He used drugs a lot and drank. He probably had bipolar disorder. He suffered from problems with his stomach. He didn't want to become a superstar. He was never really happy with his life. I think it is a tragedy that he killed himself. Nirvana would probably be the biggest band in the world today.
