Manuel is a terrible manager.  He did not line up Hamels to pitch against the mets.  He benched Rollins against the mets.  These two decisions could cost his team the division.

Even in a blow out, you still want your closer to pitch every few days so he doesn't get rusty.

In a home game, once you hit the 9th inning without a lead, there are no more save situations.  Either you lose, or you walk off with a win.

When you're losing by 1 going in to the top of the 9th, you want to keep the game at 1 run so you have a good chance to walk off in the bottom of the 9th, or at least tie it and force extras, and the closer is theoretically the best man to do that.

Besides, he hadn't pitched since Tuesday, and managers don't like their closers to go too long without pitching, or they tend to get rusty.

I was hoping they brought in Lidge (as a Braves fan). As a team, we have hurt Lidge more than anyone else all year long...and he definitely didn't disappoint   :)   I'm more scared of Chad Durbin than I am of Lidge honestly. I hope his ERA skyrockets...

Because he is dumb. The Phillies are losing  allot of games because of his dumb moves like this. Lidge is a closer so he still only pitch when there is a save opportunity or when the Phillies are leading games. He is wasting Lidge when he brings him into the game when they are losing.
