Why did Napoleon do it?

Why did he want to b the King of Italy ,etc.?

Because he could, If you thought you had a chance at being the King of Italy wouldn't you go for it ?

He wanted to be the richest and most powerful man in the world and be remembered forever.  He may have briefly attained the first two before the 1813 invasion of Russia and he certainly got the third.

Napoleon was already president of the Italian Republic and created the kingdom of Italy in 1805 to better go with the French Empire. Although he was king, his stepson Eugene was viceroy.

Napoleon had been interested in the Roman Empire since his childhood and wanted to control Rome and Italy.
