Why did Nastia Liukin wear a pink suit instead of the Olympic team uniform?

Apparently she said she chose to wear the pink leotard because pink is her favorite color.

I guess it worked?

Because it was all-around and it was an individual event, competitors are allowed to choose what they want to wear. The hot pink leotard is what the USA team apparently wore to the qualifications. The red leotard Shawn was wearing was from the team finals.

I don't know - but after 5 minutes of that glaringly hot pink suit twinkling at me, I wanted to gouge my own eyes out.

I think most of the leotards were terrible this year. I didn't like any of the American ones, the Australian ones (and I'm an Aussie) nor the British one which was just horrible.

The Chinese teams was very nice though, I like how it was embroidered like a cheongsam.

they can wear any of their countries "official" suits. That was an official American suit. I believe the team had worn that suit in the prelims.

You really need to understand those gymnastic families. You think they  normal ones are bad? Just imagine gymnastic parents that were world class gymnasts themselves!

They wanted to separate her from the rest of the team and make her special, thats why.
