  1. Firstly, people usually refer to him by his last name,Machiavelli.  Secondly, he wrote it to emphasize the importance for stabliity in Florence, and to give advice to the medici family on the best ways to aquire, maintain and protect their state.


  2. Not intending his writing to be a scholarly treatise on political theory, Machiavelli wrote The Prince to gain the favor of the ruling Medici family, offering advice on how a prince might gain and keep power.
