Question:

Why did Palin blatantly lie about the 'Bridge To Nowhere' at the RNC?

It is well documented that she supported the bridge then didn't at one point.

Why did she lie and say she NEVER supported this project when she DID?

And, why would she lie about something that could be easily proven to be so?

Thoughts?

  1. Obama has lied his actual BELIEF IN RELIGION.

  2. Well, she IS a Repubelican.....

  3. Not only did she support the bridge to nowhere until it was shot down in the US Senate she also kept the earmark money for her state that was supposed to be used for the Bridge to nowhere. In the speech last night she also claimed that she had fought against pork barrel spending but when she was mayor of Wasilla she secured more than 11 million dollars in earmarks for a town of a little more than 5000.

  4. Well...strictly and literally speaking, what she said was "Thanks, but no thanks..."

Assuming that the "well documented" proof that she supported it at first could be reflected with the "thanks" followed by her changing her mind reflected with the "no thanks".

Wanna talk about flip-flops?  Lets throw down on that topic....PLEASE!!!

  5. She didn't say that she never supported it.  She implied that she worked to get the project canceled.

Here is the actual quote from the speech:

"I told the Congress "thanks, but no thanks," for that Bridge to Nowhere.

If our state wanted a bridge, we'd build it ourselves. "

    Try again.

  6. Did she say "I never supported the bridge to nowhere?" No, she didn't. She said she opposed it, and she did.

  7. Maybe she's taking a page out of the liberal play book?

  8. Why? Because it makes a great sound bite and the vast majority of people get all their election information from sound bites and don't bother to check out the full story. When are people going to wake up and vote the issues and not the personalities.

  9. Biden will make her repent before the Lord!

  10. not only did she lie about that, but also she said that Mccain made the statement "I'd rather lose and election, than lose a war" a year ago when it was really mad like 3 months ago

  11. She is a Pit bull who wear lipstick. 2 in 1 package- ATTACK Obama with sarcastic remark at the same time to ATTRACT Hillary's supporters with a smile with lipstick.

    Bridge to NOwhere

PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

  12. It is what politicians do at conventions. They make themselves look good and bash the other side. Lies are told by all sides. The politicians count on the fact that most Americans don't bother to look up information for them selves. They just believe that last thing they hear. I would pay more attention to debates then to conventions. If the debates are done right then all sides will be called out to answer for the B.S.. that they have said on the campaign trail.

  13. Not only that, she shut down the bridge, but kept the money and access roads to the bridge are still being built right now.

    Gotta love the hypocrisy.

Edit: She even has the t-shirt! http://www.flickr.com/photos/baratunde/2...

  14. Why does ANY politician lie? She isn't the only one.

  15. Because she knows the rank and file conservatives will swallow it.  She was very much in favor of the bridge until Stevens became a laughing stock over it and the federal funding dried up.

  16. Same reason she claims that her experience as Governor of the "largest" state in the US gives her enough experience to be VP. Exaggeration is the basis of the Republican campaign. I don't care how much land mass the state has. The population is smaller than most major cities in the US.

  17. I don't think she said "never." From what I recall she said "thanks, but no thanks."

  18. That's not all man:

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.

    Some examples:

PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate."

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

  19. I don't know. Probably because no-one outside of Alaska is aware that she ran on a platform of completing the bridge. Read the Alaskan papers... a lot of people up there are pissed. Not only did she not oppose the bridge until there was not enough money left to complete it. She took the money that was left, and placed it in other projects rather than fulfilling her campaign promise to finish the now half completed bridge. The fact that she was officially the one to end the project is quite incidental to what actually went on. She was completely for it. And the reason she stopped it had nothing to do with 'reform'. Alaska has continued to pull more federal money per person than any other state in the union under her watch. For all the talk of 'corrupt Chicago politics' there isn't much being said about the more recent corrupt Alaskan politics, which Palin is complicit in.

The fact that she would use this type of deception TWICE After it was pointed out as a lie the first time (She said the same thing in her 'introduction speech' when McCain announced her as his pick, and the Alaskan press called her on it.) is indicative of the type of leader she is. This, along with the ethics violations she is currently under investigation for in Alaska, this starts to paint a pretty bleak picture of her leadership skills. It reminds me of the exact same thing that is wrong with Washington now.

  20. She supported it when the federal gov't was paying for it.  When they wanted Alaska to foot the bill, she opposed it.  Simple... isn't it?

  21. She did oppose it, only after supporting it became a political liability.

Very clever of her to leave that last part out.

  22. I was right about the war. Obama. Only because the surge worked, wonder why he left that out?

  23. you DNC have such a short memory...here is a list of ZERO's lies...

EXPIRATION DATE: August 20, 2008: "Let's be clear, our troops have completed every mission they've been given," Mr. Obama said at the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Orlando, Fla., where the likely Democratic presidential nominee courted military voters who are expected to play a pivotal role in several swing states. "They have created the space for political reconciliation."

  24. The fact is, when she first became Governor she spoke to the people of Ketchican (population 50) and explained that she did not think that Ketchican was "nowhere" (as in bridge to nowhere). At that point she did not yet actively oppose it.  When she learned more about it she clearly opposed to it.  So, she never "supported the bridge" she was just not as opposed to it at first.

    EDIT-

Direct quote from last nights speech. ABC news transcript.

"I told the Congress 'thanks, but no thanks,' for that Bridge to Nowhere. If our state wanted a bridge, we'd build it ourselves. "

    -S. Palin.

Glad I could clear this up for you so you don't keep spreading a false impression about Governor Palin.

  26. Simple Answer, She's a Republican!

  27. She didn't say that she never supported the project last night.  I agree that the way she said it was misleading because she did originally support it.  But she stated that fought to end the bridge, which in the end she did.

  28. She said only one man has fought for you, well   this election as Obama has said is not about him it is about us. I and many obama supporters have fought for you, is our contribution nothing simply because we support Obama.

  29. She's a Republican.

    That's what they do.

  30. cause she will do anything and say anything to get elected, this woman is seriously scary.
