Question:

Why did Palin lie at the RNC in her speech?

I just don't understand why the Americans liked to be lied to, it amazes me.

PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate."

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

  1. they all lie because they count on most Americans not knowing the facts.

  2. So, she's a liar?  How about you:

Your "facts" do not disprove anything she said.  She said the tax burden of all Americans and your proof only includes the middle-class.  As a whole, he would raise income taxes.  And his tax plan would indeed raise all those taxes listed.  Where's the lie, except for yours?

As for Obama's Senate career, he has indeed written zero bills.  Zero.  While Palin has run a branch of government (for a short time granted), Obama has always been a face among many.  He has never led anything.  Again, her quote says he authored no bills.  No lie there.  Again, except for your unfounded accusations that she lied.

She says she said no thanks to the bridge, which you readily admit.  She says "wasteful" spending, not all spending.  Once again, you are the liar here.

Try again.  Next time try to use "facts" that don't prove she was telling the truth.

Edit:  Again, wrong.  "Co-sponsored" does not mean wrote.  Learn how your government works.  Sponsorship of a bill only identifies the Senator who introduces it.  Senators may together submit a bill, but the first-named Senator is considered the chief sponsor. The others are considered cosponsors.  The strategy of associating legislation with

the names of more than one Senator is sometimes useful in gaining support across partisan or ideological ranks. So again, and please get someone to explain this to you, co-sponsoring does not mean he wrote it.  I've come across a democratic site that lists Obama as the co-author of one bill, so I'll give you that.  One.  Pretty  meager for a three year career.

As for the tax cuts, who gets them means nothing in this context.  You claimed she lied, when she clearly didn't.  Your facts still do not show a lie.  We can argue over who's plan is best, but your question is about lying, which you have not shown to be true.  You rail about spin, but that's all your question is.  Pure spin.

You say "She couldn't get the money out of Washington for the bridge so she then said no thanks to it after fighting for it for so long.".  Again, we can argue about the timing, but you yourself admit (twice) that she said no, just like she said in the part where you say she lied.

Your question is about lying, but you still haven't proved any lies.  Yes, there's a difference of opinion on who's policies are better, but no lies have been proved.

  3. Welcome to Politics 101,  Please turn to chapter 4, In this chapter we will learn about spin.

"He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise."

It's this part that really scares me.  If you think lobbyists and special interest groups are bad now, you haven't seen nothing yet.

  4. Because she was only put on the ticket to be an attack dog. She has no real substance wow she was mayor for 20 months and popped out 5 kids... Every speech Ive viewed her in she's lied cant wait till the debates Biden is going to put her on blast! The one lie that really bothers me the most is when she says Obama is going to raise taxes that's not what he said he said anyone that gets paid over 250,000 a year will get their taxes raised. (aka) upper class not lower or middle class.

  5. she didn't lie. obama has never accomplished a thing except for his own benifiet.

    besides, he's old news.
