Why did Rory McIlroy miss the Qatar Masters?

The young Irishman was otherwise engaged, playing in the Saadiyat Beach Classic - which formed the opening of the new Gary Player course in Abu Dhabi. McIlroy played a Pro-Am on the Thursday, but his lack of play in "proper" tournaments didn't hurt his world ranking - he actually rose to No. 9 in the rankings this weekend.
