Why did Sir Geoffrey Boycott say that Ponting was not as good as Tendulkar and Lara?

I can answer this. Both Tendulkar and Lara have the records, but ponting will soon catch up. Ponting is arrogant and is no gentlemen. He doesnt play in the spirit of the game, he was recently fined for displaying dissent at an umpire's decision and was fined 30% of his match fee...as Geoff Boycott Says, both Lara and Tendulkar has "captured the public's imagination", and not been involved in any controversy.

In 1999 Ponting was involved in a fight outside an English Pub. Ponting Often sledges.

Steve Waugh often said that you never should sledge Lara and Tendulkar, otherwise they would start to smash any bowler.

Ponting, as an Australian national Captain is even Boerdering on being a chauvinist, take a look at that Harbhajan incident;

Ponting even appeals for catches when they are not taken cleanly.

Even Sunil Gavaskar dislikes Ponting.

Ponting is no gentlemen. He wants to win at all costs.

Nowdays when there is no bowlers like akram, younis, walsh, ambrose, garner and crroft, ponting takes the easy way out.

Before the year 2000 ponting had a test average of 42. This clearly shows that after the new millenium, he relied on hayden, langer, martyn to build the innings, then just took the chance to gain big scores.

This is very unlike Lara and tendulkar. They both carried their teams in the hardest of times.

fastest to get to both 9000 and 11000 runs. most 4's on careers (1559), compared to pontings 1100..; Lara has scored 25% of his teams runs in his tenure, only 2nd to bradman! Lara is 2nd to bradman in terms of touble tons. Lara has the record for most runs in an over; Lara has 2 triple tons; Lara has scored 375,400 and 501. He has 5 of his 8 double tons againts AUS.

Surely, Ponting is just a man who played for a long time, not a superhuman.

Look at Kallis, a south african player. He's got 9800 test runs with 30 test centuries and is only 31 years old. He is also a top contender for the records. But he is no Lara or Tendulkar. He has not captured the imagination of the public. Or rather the world.

My reasoning as to why "he" said it was Lara never had the support that Ponting has always had around him.

Yes, I agree Tendulkar and Lara faced better bowlers in their careers and Ponting has never had to face the best in Lee, Gillespie, Mcgrath and Warney.

Ponting is still a class act and I believe he is better at mixing odi's and tests than the two of them.

He is absolutely right that Ponting is not in Lara's and Sachin's league. I think its the best compliment Ponting ever got, he is far better batsman than Lara and Sachin and he plays for the country not for records. So when Boycott said Ponting is not in the league of Lara and Sachin he meant he is better than sachin and lara

Respected by who? A wife basher, liar & bad sport is hardly a 'respected ' expert, & I question your use of the word expert! Boycott has  this thing against any Australian because of his poor showing against them over the years. It's just bitterness that makes him say this & any discerning cricket buff would realise that. BTW, why do you keep bringing this up? Pontings record speaks for itself, especially so in light of his successes as captain.

Edit: Boycott is not, and never will be'Sir Geoffrey'! What a crock, and if his own countrymen don't respect him, then what does it say of the values of you users who praise him?Just read terrible o's answer, it's the truth.It amazes me how you Indians always seem to glorify bad sports, losers & downright cheats.
