Why did Voldemort kill Harry Potter's parents?

He wanted to kill Harry because the prophecy implied that Harry would kill him eventually. So he set out to kill the Potters. Snape pleaded for him to spare Lily because he was still madly in love with her. So he wanted to kill James because he wanted to kill the whole family and he couldnt kill Lily because snape told him not to but she got in the way so he killed her anyway :/ sorry what i said was repetitive but im too lazy to fix it lol

He didnt need to kill James, he was only after harry because he new that he would be destroyed if Harry was still alive. so after murdering lily and james, he thought to kill the set instead of letting one live

Voldemort was a cruel dark wizard. He didn't care who he killed but of course he did pick which would die first. So he only wanted to kill James and Harry Potter but when Lilly got in his way he still killed her even if he was not there to do so. When Voldemort tried to kill Harry he couldn't even touch him. The reason for this was that Lilly and James's love for Harry protected him from Voldemort. He was torn from his body and was nothing less than the most helpless thing ever. Ha ha to Voldemort. This was also how Harry had got his lighting bolt scar.
