    There were a lot of problems. One famous story is that some German employees would often hide in the bathroom rather than participate in the Wal Mart cheer at the start of the day.

    Their labor practices didn't translate well in a country with strong pro union laws, their corporate culture was resisted by employees, and their business model of leveraging their large scale to provide cost savings couldn't be implemented in a country they only had 85 stores.
