Why did austria want to take action against serbia before WWI?

BEFORE the assassination of franz ferdinand and his wife..

weren't there a couple things before that?

  1. Austria wanted to annex the Balkans,  but Serbia wernt happy about it - as there were many slavs in the Balkans, and Serbia felt it was rightly theres.

    So Austria wanted to take action against Serbia BUT was concerned over Russia's actions, as Russia was the self proclaimed champion of the Slavs.
