  1. When it became clear that if we (the UK) did not meet targets put in place by the EU we would be fined millions.

    All boils down to money.

  2. probably because global warming shortens life and kills the earth even in the UK global warming shortens life by about 9 months

  3. it could be something to do with some of us becoming more spiritually aware. science doesnt offer us all the answers and religions are just causing wars. i think theres a movement towards spiritualism and the connection to the earth and everything around us. every living thing around us gives off energy and i think the more people appreciate natural beauty, the more we want to save and preserve it. and  this is where being environmentally aware as u say, comes in.

that and just the threat of global warming and the panic about carrier bags lol and the ice caps always being on the news these days

  4. Because without it, the end of the world is nigh and we should care.  Nothing fashionable about it.

  5. Probably because the issue is raised a lot more especially in the media. And there are a lot of people who are trying to do that make being "green" fashionable". Like different celebrities and even some clothes companies. It's advertised a lot and as we haven't got much time until the damage we're inflicting on our earth becomes irreversible I'm sure you'll agree this is a positive thing.

  6. Because the government wants us to save energy.  As far as the environment is concerned, as long as China and America continue with their current policies, our contribution is meaningless.

  7. because the wellfare of our world effects us all for many generations and people that care are very smart....

    and smart is fashionable.

  8. well it's not fashionable enough..  there are still way too many ignorant and self centred stupid heads out there, that cannot be bothered making an effort to make the world a better place for the next generations.!!!!!

  9. It shows that people care, and I'm thinking it has a lot to do with people not wanting to pay for gas. haha

  10. Fashions come and fashions go. Why is it fashionable for guys to walk around with their underwear hanging out?

  11. beacuse you save our world =]

  12. For some people it massages their egos.  But I don't care about their motives so long as they stop consuming so much.  I agree with those saying the end is nigh without significant changes.

  13. Since celebrities and politicians started using it as a platform. Most of the people who "care" about the environment are self satified smug b*stards who care more about what others think of them.

And people make a lot of money out of it, carbon offset schemes = pay me for doing nothing. Think of it this way, King Henry the 8th wants to loose weight but he has a big banquet tonight! Oh no! what to do! Pay a local peasant to not eat for a week and hey presto! His meal is now calorie neutral and he doesnt put on a pound! Oh wait a sec...

    I hate madonna.

  14. I think with all the press coverage, those more in the spot light thought it may boost their profile to be seen to be green.

I personally am not interested in their motives just as long as they are making the effort.

Every single little bit makes a difference, and even the smallest person can make a difference.

There was a debate about this exact thing on The Big Green Switch, which I participated in, check it out:

    http://www.biggreenswitch.co.uk/node/441

Loads of people had there say, with varying opinions.

Either way, it's fantastic that more people are becoming aware of how their actions effect the planet and that they are willing to change their habits in order to protect it.

    Hope this helps

    Blessed be

  16. as soon as the government decided they could tax it

  17. It's a generational thing.  We've gone from generations with a strong social conscience in the 60's and 70's to "ME generations" in the 80's and 90's back to a new group with a social conscience.  God Bless them all!

  18. The findings of the IPCC's (Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change) reports on climate change over the last 18 or so years have led to such agreements as Kyoto (commitment to cutting carbon emissions) which have in turn led to EU directives forcing governments to introduce new building regs etc to reduce emissions.

So although this seems like a sudden trend it has actually been building up for quite a while. The IPCC report of early 2007 finally stated that human activity was highly responsible for climate change, this had a huge impact on things and a lot of large companies started to change their ways at that time.
