  1. Having a figurehead that does not have to be (re)elected saves society from the ineficiencies of forms of democracy headed by an elected president.  I live in Canada where we also have the Westminister system.  Having an appointed Governor General to perform ceremonial rights and procedures and represent physically the idea of the commonwealth (the people of a nation or state).

Maintaining the historical ties with the British royal family enables this.

  2. Over the last 250 years, numbers of my family have died in wars fighting for what they believed in. During the American Revolution they died for the right to live under British rule, so I guess you could say they were fighting for the King. They were actually fighting to protect their familes and property. Then they fought in the war of 1812 to protect those new lands from invading Americans. And they won, so they stayed under British rule.

We lost more in WWI and WWII, again to protect their familes and freedom. If they hadn't done so, you might be writing this in German or Japanese.

  3. "Fighting for the Queen" is a symbolic saying.  Those brave men died in battle for their country and families.

Luckily we have been blessed with having a fairly decent queen who has shown intelligence and compassion for all people....or at least she has tried her best.

Although technically powerless and mainly relegated to ceremonial purposes, the monarchy (and its retinue such as the governor general mentioned above) can still give advice and offer their services.  And sometimes these services have been a determining factor in an issue regarding the commonwealth as a whole.

I would call the monarchy a binding force for the commonwealth.

  4. maybe she was their queen

  5. Brave men die in battle for their country, not for the Queen. Since you are apparantly not one of them, I fail to see your problem. Since you are Australian, sorry mate but she actually is your Queen whether you like it or not.

  6. you didn't die, so what is your problem

but actually it was for king/queen and country so if they didn't believe in the royal family they died for their country

remember that every person who enlists pledges allegiance to the crow so the why is because they wanted to and agreed to

  7. I suggest you look in your history book, she is your Queen.
