Why did canada go into WW1?

basically, it was an ally and a dominion of Great Britain. it was also however because they wanted to use it as a chance to create stronger bonds between the uk and usa. canadian prime minister borden was terrified that if the usa went to war on germanys side, they would attack canada, as part of the enemy, so any opportunity they took to create a strong alliance

Let's put it this way. Germany and Japan were invading countries and trying to take over the world. In addition Japan and Germany declared war on the USA. With that in mind and the fact that both Europe was threatened by Germany and Asia was threatened with Japan, push would come to shove that sooner of later, Canada would be on the chopping block too.

Another way this can be put is, if Germany or Japan would have won the war, you would be writing now in German or Japanese or have been dead now.

In addition, Canada would not have to debate about biligular English or French in their country. They would be dictated to speak German or Japanese.

Canada was the first nation to back Britain's call to war.

Because Canada is a Commonwealth Nation there were ties to Britain...
