cyclone tracy occurred due to imense low pressure build ing up over the Arafura sea which then condensed into a cyclonic weather trough over darwin.The massive amount of damage was done in part because of egos as the people of the northern territory had seen out other cyclones with no damage they underestimated Tracy's force.

Cyclone Tracy occurred as a Natural Part of the Weather Patterns that are present around the Equator and the Tropical Regions of this part of the World.

NO-ONE could have fore-seen the strength of this Cyclone (back in the `70`s) as fore-casting was still a `Primitive Chlid`

the intensity of the Low Pressure systems coming down from the Equator and high land Temperatures , combined with cooler water Temperatures simply made this a `good mix` for what we Historically know Today as a "Devastating Storm".

also , given the Fact that Storms of this Intensity had never been experienced before , the Residents of Darwin were totally un-prepared for its ferocity (as was the weather bureau)

and at least in hind-sight , better quality Cyclone resistant Materials have been Manufactured.

at least my info. comes to you from first-hand experience (from cyclone Althea...Townsville 1971) (and some others since ... to 1996) , my interest in this kind of weather phenomenon and from having friends and relatives in Darwin to relate these stories/facts/info, to me.
