  1. he retired because he is a pu$$y!!!!!the welterweight division is full of great fighters at the moment...i still cannot understand how mayweather was rated #1 for 2 years at 147 and he didnt even fight a true welter in the top 10..true champions work there way up the ranks and earn there shot at fighting a champion...mayweather would go into a divison and fight the weakest link on the chain that had a belt, floyd never worked his way up the ranks and he never unified the titles in any division...floyd was the most protected boxer in history, just watch his early fights you can see that the refs and judges always helped this coward to survive without losing..mayweather should have 2 losses, watch the ref in the first fight of castillo vs pbf...mayweather was getting knocked down & the ref wouldnt rule it...the judges gave pbf a gift...how do you beat the champion by running and holding?castillo outlanded mayweather 5 to 1,all the commentators had mayweather losing big time...another fight you should watch the ref doing his corrupt work was the hatton fight..joe cortez would not let ricky work on the inside..cortez was breaking them up to d**n much, and whats funny is cortez deducted a point from hatton without a warning and it was floyds fault for turning his body all the way around, ricky is another example of floyds cherrypicking...hatton was exposed by luis collazo...hatton was over hyped and any welter in the top 10 can ko ricky easily...arturo gatti was another hyped boxer that was washed up and had been war torn and koed by many before mayweather got to him..zab judah has been koed by everybody except mayweather, baldomir another over the hill bum,de la hoya was also washed up and pbf barely won by 1 point and the majority of ppl that seen the fight agree floyd lost, even floyd sr said his son lost...the only credit win i give to mayweather was against corrales and chico was fresh out of jail and had very little time to prepare so chico went in that fight unprepared and mayweather did not want to give chico the rematch...it will be good for boxing without mayweather and hopefully he never comes back...beside his ducking and dodging the best in the division he is the most boring guy to watch in the ring! and to the guy above me,s.r.leonard avoided aaron pryor!

  2. If Miguel Cotto wanted to kick your @$$ you'd retire too.  Soon as this phony ''bling-bling'' c**p he keeps spewing gets old, and he's out of money because he keeps spending on foolishness, he'll be back.

The problem is that guys who are so full of themselves often learn a very painful lesson.  They all seem to think they can bow out and ''pull a George" (or a Ray).

Not everyone can do that.  The smaller you are the more difficult the "come back" will be.  Floyd will find that out.  No way anyone can convince me he simply "wanted" to stop fighting.   He could have accomplished so much more.  Beating Oscar and Ricky DOES NOT make you a Legend.

  3. .....stonez, Floyd Mayweather defeated De La Hoya....

  4. i believe that this retirement stunt is just a game.He knows that he has really no challenges out there besides cotto. so he is trying to get out of the oscar fight.no offense to oscar but oscar is old and another fight like the one before would just bore people to death.in a couple of months after cotto fights margarito he will come out of retirement and fight cotto. All this is is a stunt to make him more money.think about it people tend to make the retired fighter out to be a god.they will do the same for mayweather.they will portray the fight as mayweather coming out of retirement for one last fight to slay the evil cotto. It will be billed as another fight of the century then mayweather wil beat cotto and a few more fighters and ride out in to the sunset.

  5. okay, so the guy is 31 he is gettin older now, he has brittle hands and is fighting at a weight with hard hitting proffesional fighters, plus the fact that he has children, he is protecting his future and good on him, he has made his mark as an all time legend so why wait until he is old and weak and gets beat? people say "he never fought cotto" blah blah, at the end of the day there is always going to be fights and opponants he didnt fight, you cant expect him to fight everyone because there is always going to be a new guy to fight.

  6. Who knows for certain, but he had retired before only to come back less then a year later.

It is possible he is doing it to try and get more money out of a rematch with Oscar, he feels because he won the first fight he deserves more money, Oscars argument is that he is the one who brings the big money not Mayweather, and Oscar is correct in saying that.

The other possibility is that he knows once Cotto defeats Margarito that It will be almost impossible for him to avoid a fight with Cotto, so he retires now and avoids Cotto.

Mayweather has had "hand trouble" his whole career, he is 31 years old. There is some strong competition out there and he dont want any part of it.

Mayweather has everyright to retire, take his money, protect his health and spend time with his family. You cannot knock a guy for that. But he also cant be considered one of the best all time pound for pound if he retires before fighting the real competition at his weight class which is Miguel Cotto, the greats like Leonard didn't duck anybody, they fought whoever whenever because they had heart and they wanted to leave no question who was the greatest. Mayweather does not seem to care, instead taking his money and running.

You can have the money or you can have the respect, he chose the money. Good for him, bad for his Legacy.

  7. Because he got tired of running.

  8. He's tired of fighting. He's BEEN tired of fighting, he just wanted to make his name known before he retired, and that's exactly what he has done. He even said this after he beat Carlos Baldomir. I'm surprised he kept on fighting this long. He might also be secretly training to beat Cotto, because he knows he can beat him, and is just trying to throw the fans off, either way, he WILL retire next year whether he fights Cotto or not.

  9. Floyd mayweather retired because Oscar Delahoya would not split the money for the rematch that angered Floyd Mayweather. Besides that the winner of the Cotto Margarito fight would become the madatory challenger for the W.B.C. title and the Ring magazine title which both belong to mayweather he dosent want to fighter either one of them which ultimately led to his retirement.

  10. Floyd made it seem like he was retirin cuz no one wuz a challenger and because he wuz getting older but truth be told he wuz retiring because he wanted to protect that undefeated streak he has

  11. For those of you who are so quick to throw up Cotto as a reason for him to retire, think about this. Name one top ranked fighter that the commintaters and some fight fans didn't say this is the guy who would possibbly dethrone Mayweather. Name one top ranked fighter where some people didn't say "Oh Mayweather is avoiding him" for some reason or another until he signed his name on the contract and beat them. If you ask me he has fought one Cotto after another. In other words for every champion that leaves the game there will always be a "Cotto". Why is it so hard to believe that the guy will step in the ring with anybody if it makes good buisness sense. He's laced up his gloves 39 times never knowing what the outcome will be.  That takes courage, theres no way anyone can convince me that he's all of a sudden afraid of this person or that person. Last time I checked Cotto laces up his gloves the same way Mayweather and  Mayweathers other 39 apponants do. Boxing is a buisiness ,Mayweather has the stature now to say "sure I'll fight anybody but it's going to cost ya" Or simply say "at this stage in my carear I've proven myself to my fans ,faimily and myself, If the powers that be don't want to make it lucrative for me; then I'm no longer interested,it's time to move on.

  12. if he does not fight within 18 months from now, then i'll believe he is retired.

if all and any of the top boxers today say they are retiring, i would believe mayweather the least.

  13. Yes he did he said he doesn't wan't it anymore he when out on top (supposably) He didn't feel he had the will.  He gave up five belts and i bet you he'll be back for more money eventually but he didn't fight a cotto.  If he would of beaten cotto i would say he's the best no doubt but he didn't.

  14. Because the real challenges out there (Cotto, and De La Hoya) he's afraid to take on. I dont blame him. Leave out on top.

  15. he didn't enjoy it anymore. he doesn't want to fight anymore.

  16. hes gonna do mma
