Why did he honk at me for slowing for a yellow light?

What is the psychology behind this, that a guy honks to get someone in front of him (me in this case) to do something illegal, like run a red light? Is that what a horn is for? Let me know what horns are for... and let me know if it's illegal to flip him the bird when he honks at me at a yellow light.

Running a red light is too dangerous. You did the right thing by stopping. You did another right thing by refraining from communicating with this #^(%* jerk in sign language.

When I was a lot younger, I used to honk at pretty girls in order to get them to turn around so I could see their faces.

Maybe this is why he honked. (BTW, it wasn't me)

I don't think its illegal to give him a friendly middle finger. Its what he diserves. as soon as he thinks about putting his hand on that horn you have that right. Maybe he was in a hurry but that doesn't give him the right to act like a jerk. I mean the yellow light means slow down, not look for cops and hit the gas! I'm 15 and I understand this easy concept. People are in such a big hurry these days.

Don't flip him the bird. Just forget about it, or the anger will eat you up inside and you'll get a stroke or heart attack in 20 years, slowpoke.

Its not illegal but its probably not a good idea to gesture at someone.Believe me I resist (or try!) all the time! But these days  people are packing guns and you read all the time how they pull them out in road rage situations. We dont want that to happen to you. Just tell yourself he is in a big hurry to go to the bathroom or something silly. Dont let it get to you. It's not worth it. Hang in there..and when you get home safely to your family, you know it was worth it.

In some states it actually is illegal to use any hand gestures at other drivers.  But, some people are just impatient and would rather you step on it to make the light rather than slow down to stop before it's actually red.

Maintain your cool and be the better person.  Unfortunately some drivers think that a yellow light means "speed up" rather than "slow down".

The psychology behind the honking @ a yellow light is that no one wants to wait @ the red light that follows the yellow.As far as doing something illegal,thats your choice.The horns intended use is to basically warn or caution people whether driving themselves or merely pedestrians about the 4,000lb. vehicle rapidly approaching them @ a speed that will cause great damage or serious bodily harm if they come in contact w/ the vehicle.No,its not illegal to shoot the finger @ the driver of an offending vehicle,but in todays society,people have been assulted,beat up and even shot for far less offenses.Take caution when you want to share your opinion about another persons driving "manners"if you will.Is it worth the risk because you were honked at?Hope this helped.
