My cat had her first litter, had 4 kittens two were alike and the other two were total oddballs of the litter. they were all healthy until the 4th week. the runt was always tiny but she within 24 hours, lost intrest in eating, slept alot , it's like her lungs were not developed all the way or something and couldnt breathe well. i had no vets to go to all were closed. She became very weak not playful anymore and then just stopped breathing. Same happened to the other kitten who died same amount of time. I cant afford to get the kitten checked out to see what was wrong with. was just wondering if anyone might know what happened. Been following all rules of taking care of the kittens and the mother. I bought kitten litter the right kind. Mom is vaccinated and so on. I am so sad i lost them they were so cute. RIP in Flower and Midnight. Please help me understand what happened.

  1. It's very common for kittens to be born with diseases and other problems.. Of course I can't tell you exactly what was wrong with them, but I don't think it's anything you did wrong.. They died a natural death.

They probably could have been saved if you took them to the vet, though. Please don't get animals if you can't afford to take care of them.

  2. It could have been fading kitten syndrome. I was told about it recently by a friend who lost one of her cats litter to it. This might be able to help. Am sorry for the loss. Are the other kittens and mother doing ok?

  3. My friend lives on a farm and her cats have kittens too. They are always dying within a week of birth. This can be from misscarrige. If the mother was moved around alot during her pregnancy- the last couple days is usually when this happens. Other then that it's when the kittens are exposed to cold climates- Like my friend's kittens crawled away from the mother and onto the cold concrete floors. They're eyes weren't open so they couldn't find their ways back.

Good luck to the rest and be careful!

  4. Nature isn't always kind.  If you cared for the kittens, and Mom was feeding them, then they were probably born with something wrong.  There may be some genetic issues with mom - without doing a necropsy on the kittens it's impossible to tell.  Time to get mom spayed so that you don't have more heartbreak.
