Hi. I have lived here in Baldwin Park, Californina, for 5 years and since my family and I moved we haven't expierienced this. It hailed, yes hailed, for like the first time ever. The day was Wensday, May 21, 2008. Does anyone know why it was like this here? Please be specific on why. Thank you. (:

  1. Hail is not the same thing as snow.  Rain and hail is relatively common.  It's just that Californians (myself included) are spoiled by mild weather.  So when they see something out of the ordinary, they get all freaked out.  It hailed in January of this year (I live in L.A.).  Check out the pic I took, which resembles snow.

  2. all because our seasons is summer

    doesn't change our weather

    it must be the

    high and low pressure

    causing all this

  3. It did not snow, it hailed, they are completely different.  Hail is formed in thunderstorms with strong updrafts.  Strong storms formed over California due to very cold air aloft--it makes the relatively warm air near the surface want to rise, and the updrafts are strong enough to lift frozen rain drops.  It is unusual for May, it would be more typical for February or March in California. It has hailed there before.

Hail hurts when it hits you and bounces when it hits the ground, snow doesn't.

  4. First you said snow and then you said hail. Which was it? Hail is a common summertime phenomenon. There is nothing strange about hail. You didn't see it before because you live in a DRY climate.

  5. 'coz of global warming!
