Why did it take Kobe more than 10 years to win his first MVP??

For the Most part of his career he played with Shaq, Who at the time was the best player in the NBA.

-Post SHAQ era he never racked up enuff wins to even be considered MVP, untill this year. MVP = Team Award, Popularity award, nothing more....MVP used to be the best overall player, which is no longer the case.

because Shaq was with him and Kobe didn't have a good team after Shaq left until this year.  they should make a BPW (Best Player in the World) award. Kobe would have so many of those.

He should have 2-3 MVP'S, but for some reason Steve Nash STOLE them from Kobe. Steve Nash is amazing, but the real reason he got them is because of Kobe's whole "rape" thing. It gave them a reason not to vote for Kobe. Even though he was the clear-cut best player in the NBA.

It doesn't matter...

Clyde Drexler, and Elgin Baylor didn't get any MVP'S and their HOF's.

Also, Oscar Robertson only has one MVP, and some people consider him the best player ever.

Shaq was hogging the spotlight when he was around, and MVP means the success to your team (which didn't occur much 'till this year) is mainly attributed to you, the most valuable player. Kobe was always good, but his team wasn't

And Reason why Shaq won MVP only 1 time is he had Kobe ... so yea when voting started people wouldn't vote for Kobe or Shaq because they had each other ( both great players )

and his last 3 years (before last season) they didn't have 50+ win games ..

1st years = overshadowed by Shaq, then when KG led the Timberwolves to the West's best record, he (KG) won the MVP.

middle years = The Suns vs. Mavericks Rivalry has overshadowed Kobe's mediocre Lakers. Nash and Dirk took on the spotlight.

now = both the Suns and Mavs made dumb trades which made them fall from being elite to being a little bit over mediocracy. they're also aging. and the lakers made a very smart trade for Gasol which put them to the elite club. now the sportlight's on him and the celtics.
