  1. So Bush could send Hurricane Katrina there and flood out black people without having to worry about starting a war with France.


  2. US was expanding at that time and will do anything to acquire lands even by purchasing New Orleans.

  3. Package deal. Couldn't get all the good real estate without taking the swamp too.

  4. Jefferson initiated the Louisiana Purchase to purposefully get New Orleans so that France and Spain would not have the ability to block American trader's access to the ports there. It also doubled the size of the US holdings at the time.
