i guess the 2 is legendary but I'd rather have seen him try making the #97 a house hold number

  1. The 2 is a prestigious ride, I suppose.  Kurt wanted that.  Rusty made the 'blue duece" legendary.  Plus, Kurt didn't fit in Jack Roush's mold.  The move had nothing to do with on track performance.

Yes, Roush did sit Busch out of 2 races, but the deal was already signed for Kurt to drive the 2.  Sitting him out was a direct consequence for his little drunken mishap in Pheonix.

  2. reason number 1 - money

    reason number 2 - money

reason number 3 - more money

It broke my heart to see him leave. Loved the 97!!!!

  3. I think Roush got rid of Busch.  Remember, Roush sat Busch for the final two races of that last season after the police episode in Phoenix.  Penske was stronger then than now though.  Newman won 8 races in 2003.

  4. Gp is correct on that one, Roush ditched Busch.

  5. you guys got to get your facts straight. Jack Roush sat Kurt because he had to. The sponsors wanted him sat. He had just got arrested by the police. Plus Kurt just left Roush. Jack didn't kick him out he left and who knows why. Jack wouldnt allow Kurt to be very ruff on the track and penske will. Kurt just couldnt take being the nice guy on the track he had to be the guy shoving people out of the way.

  6. At the time Penske had a better thing going on. Kurt had already announced his defection to Penske when the incident in Phoenix happened and Roush parked him. The #2 crew shows signs of brilliance (Pocono), but can't seem to find any consistency.
