Why did large-scale open-range cattle ranching come to an end in the American West?

  1. you may not believe it but it was because of sheep.  Ya sheep . they were much easier to raise and farmers started raising then and when they did they put up fences.  open ranges no longer existed.  this was a very big problem.  Barbed wire was invented and lots of people were killed over the sheep cattle battle.
