Travel was once for the wealthy who paid other people to carry their bags.  Now that everyone travels most don't have the extra money to hire porters so wheels became a substitute

LOl at the answer above me. The space program brought about many inventions such as TV dinners. Maybe no one saw the "no wheels on luggage" as a big thing.

The same men who were intelligent enough to think up the "wheels on luggage" were on the moon when they discovered that that was where their lost luggage actually went....

well people didnt travel so much back then, so the luggage could be carried just fine. however, then someone up n' got the idea that they ought'a go to the moon. so they get to the moon, and they are carrying all the stuff which they needed to visit the moon. and it is heavy! at least there's no gravity there, so they had very little trouble transporting their luggage...but once they got back down to earth...well thats a different story. so the astronaut tells his friend the inventor that he needs an easier way to carry luggage cuz of his bad baack. Inventor Bob then comes up with wheels on luggage because his great great great great great great great great ect. uncle helped invent the wheel...thus the evolution of wheels on luggage, and how it ties into walking on the moon  =D

People always like to go after their big dreams. Walking on the moon is definitely bigger then wheeled luggage. At least in my book. LOL = )
