  1. Because people don't trade goods and animals anymore as money.  I think things would be better if everyone had to do their own trading instead of buying.  The rich would be up **** creek, not knowing how to take care of themselves or their homes.  It would be interesting to see the poor prevail, maybe then the little man could step on the big man.

  2. It's a lot more convenient and easy to carry a handful of paper than it is to lug around whatever object you have to trade until you find someone who wants _that_ object and who also has something that _you_ want.

  3. Money makes things easier as far as buying and selling goes. Before that, we had the barter system - I'll trade you one of my chickens for a rack of ribs. (Or whatever, you get the point.)

The invention and use of money has made it possible to standardize prices for us.

  4. No.

We all need to trade. Someone always has something that we'd like, and we always are likely to have something they'd like to trade for it.

Money puts a fixed monetary value on what you have so you can safely and consistently trade. It provides stability to any civilisation or economy.

Similarly, say you wanted to buy something very expensive like a house. It's far easier to pay in a denomination of notes and coins, then it is to pay with hundreds of horses etc.

  5. We would all be rich if nobody had any money : )

  6. nope

  7. I agree. I think money is the root of all evil.  Even more so than power.  If people have money they can buy power.

  8. Money is a financial measurement.  Societies need a means to place value on items....Besides, would you expect companies, farmers, and employers to just provide their products and services for the heck of it.

  9. if we lived w/o money, we would probably go crazy, but rich wouldn't be in your vocab, much

  10. So you propose to stockpile a wide variety of goods I might want so that you can barter?

  11. Sure, and you can pay for your gasoline with five pounds of potatoes you grew in your back yard.  Get with it !!!!!!!

  12. Money was invented to easily trade things for other things.

    Money is just wealth generalized.

    Explanation:

Since the beginning of mankind, people needed and wanted 'stuff'. Since they didn't have money back in those days, they traded.

Random Example: Some man in 2000 b.c. wants pork meat, but he only has vegetables, so he wants to trade it for pork with someone else. But not everyone is interested in vegetables and ALSO has pork meat! Now if he just had money, there would be no problem, since everyone needs money!

Maybe you understand it a bit better now :D

Summary: Money was used to allow people to 'trade' with anyone they would want! And it allows us to easily set prices. Or shopkeepers would have to write things like "golden ring! for either 5kg of silver, 10000kg of potatoes or one billion stones" :D

And NO we wouldn't be better off without money.

We want to please our needs. We want to have status.

If we didn't have money, we would still have greedy people. We would still have poverty and unfairly divided wealth!

Instead of comparing each others money, we would be comparing the jewelry, food, estates and cattle! What's the difference?

  13. idk there is lik no way to no!

  14. maybe, but you'd still be bummed about having fewer cows than your neighbour
