  1. its not in every state in the US but they dont wann a risk it! what if you ate a tomatoe with salmonela! they have a resone they arent over reacting thing if your were a person who had a bad tomato

  2. There was a nation-wide recall for tomatoes because one of the distributors overlooked shipments that contained salmonella.  There was an outbreak of salmonella in New Mexico, Florida, and Texas.  It is a disease tht can lead to death if not treated properly.

  3. At last count, I think it was 228 people got sick in 23 different states.  It was a "significant" salmonella outbreak.

  4. Many tomatoes have been found to have Salmonela, type of bacteria that creates food poisoning.

The restaurants are taking tomatoes off the menu as a precaution until they get the OK from the FDA.

  5. It's better to be safe than sorry but I think we should find out the cause of how the tomato's were contaminated before we get so paranoid.  Tomatoes are grown on farms so that's where the gov. should start.  Seems to me toilet facilities are not being provided for the field workers everywhere & they are doing their "business" right where the crops are being grown.  Hence contamination.  Just a theory of mine.  Also not all types of tomatoes are effected & not from everywhere they are grown.....

  6. besides all that above....

they are all scared of being sued cuz someone got sick.

  7. salmonella scare.....

  8. Because the health authorities aren't sure of the origin of the bad tomatoes.  It boils down to a liability issue - if someone dies from this there will be a lawsuit.

  9. No one has gotten sick from tomatoes here in Florida. In fact, Florida grown tomatoes were cleared by the FDA the other day. And if you think about it, 200 or even 300 people getting sick from tomatoes is a very small percentage of the overall number of people who consume raw tomatoes every day, on burgers, in salads, brushetta, etc. So maybe it's actually an experiment in controlling the general public.

  10. no because its better to be safe then sorry. you can live without tomatoes for a while.

  11. It may be overreacting, but if there are any health issues in food products, they have to pull the food from all of the restaraunts for fear of other people getting sick.  The government can't stand around ignoring a few issues, because the illnesses could turn out to be serious.

Lke I said, it may be overreacting, but it's for our best.  And if you're relly craving tomatoes, I went to Subway and they still have them there.
