my son is 4 days old and exclusively breastfed. this morning, after about a 5min feeding..he started to doze off and then he puked up about a tbsp worth of water and curdy white stuff. was it because he was falling asleep, something wrong with my milk, or is he sick? I take my vitamins and watch what I eat..so that he wouldn't have any issue with it. he didn't cry or anything, he's otherwise fine.

  1. Even breastfed babies spit up sometimes.  It's no big deal.  He probably just had a little bubble in his tummy.

No need to worry unless he's throwing up every time he nurses.

  2. Sometimes babies just barf.  If he does it continuously, then I would worry.

  3. It's okay dear it's quit normal my baby's 8mths old and he still throws up frm time to time so you have nothing to worry about as he keeps develpoping he will soon knw how to keep things down

  4. It sounds more like he burped up to me. Once in awhile, you just don't manage to get all the air out when you burp 'em.

Babies do this quite often.  I wouldn't worry unless all of what he

drinks comes up more than once.  You sound lucky, like you've never had this problem.  My first couldn't keep any form of milk down!

  5. I breastfeed exclusively also and my son is 4 weeks old and he did the same thing to me the other night and i was a little worried so i called my doctor and he said that it was probably just an air bubble and i didn't get it out when i burped him. But all in all he is just fine. So don't worry and congrats on you new little one.

  6. Hi,

I think the most important thing to start with is to get your baby into a good sleep routine.  I had massive problems with getting my 4 month old son to sleep.  He would just lie awake and cry for hours, then when he finally went to sleep he would wake every hour or two hours through the night and cry again!  Talk about pulling our hair out .... we were absolutely desperate for sleep!

It was a baby sleep audio program recommended by a friend that finally saved us. We followed the advice and began by creating a baby sleep routine which included bathtime, dimming of the lights, putting James into his crib, final nappy change and then lullabies. We also made recommended changes to his naps during the day and used some of the other recommended techniques. Within two weeks he was sleeping through the night most nights with just the odd night where he would just wake once!

Definitely start by creating a good baby sleep routine though and you could find that solves most of your baby sleep problems.

    Good luck!
